Indiana Boys Top 10

1. E.C. Central (1) 1-0

Angel Garcia who? Kawann Short who? In the Cardinals' 101-69 season-opening win over Lew Wallace, guard Derrell Conner scored 17 of his 28 points in the third quarter for the W. Next up is Warren Central at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse on Dec. 8. Angel? Kawann?

2. Merrillville (2) 0-0

The Pirates have been quietly in a hammock, swinging lightly in the winter chill and sipping ice-cold lemonade. Not much to do when there are no games. Zzzz. Thanks to the football team's success, Merrillville plays its first game tonight at Chesterton. It's hammock time.

3. Crown Point (3) 0-0

The Bulldogs have been quietly in a hammock, swinging lightly in the winter chill and sipping ice-cold lemonade. Not much to do when there are no games. Zzzz. Thanks to the football team's success, C.P. plays its first game tonight at LaPorte. It's hammock time.

4. Wirt (4) 1-0

The road-weary Troopers have already travelled to Huntington and head to Chicago to play somebody named Sullivan tonight. The Troop coop doesn't play in Miller until Jan. 4 when South Bend Adams comes to town.

5. West Side (5) 2-0

Nice win in the opener over Indianapolis Arlington, a squad that won 18 games last year. Gerald Campbell scored 28, DeShawn Clay had 18 and Marcus Upshaw tallied 11 in the win. A trip down to Lowell on Saturday is good for Region basketball and Gary schools. More please.

6. Hammond (8) 1-0

Could someone tell us who Dakota Tucker is please? The junior scored 19 and grabbed 10 boards in the Wildcats' six-point win over Roosevelt on Tuesday. Marius Bailey (17), Robert Jackson (14) and Louis Willis (10) all scored in double digits. But none were Dakota Tucker.

7. Chesterton (6) 1-0

After a win over the Cavemen last week, the Trojans host Merrillville tonight. You think Chesterton might guard Bo Patton tonight? In last year's sectional semifinal, Patton nailed a half-court buzzer-beating "jumper" to win 57-55 in OT. Trojans, guard Patton this time.

8. Calumet (9) 1-0

Carl Traicoff was worried two weeks ago. He isn't quite so much after Tuesday's season-opening win over Hanover Central. But like he told his team on Wednesday, "Winning is dangerous. Winning is dangerous. Winning is dangerous." We'll see how much so Saturday at Bishop Noll.

9. Clark (7) 2-0

So far, so good for the new-look Pioneers. Wins over Whiting and Andrean set up Saturday's home game against Griffith. Two thirds of the Carpens are gone to graduation, which makes it easier on fans to know who is who. Now, finding the Carpen (Jon) on the floor won't be so tough.

10. Bishop Noll (NR) 2-0

A huge Greater South Shore Conference game is Saturday, when Calumet comes to town. This one should be worth the price of admission. It's Jason Chorba against Mike Akins. Drew Trost against Carl Traicoff. And Ed Hreha against Woody Feeler.
