FISH & SHRIMP | Cedar Lake

St. Michael The Archangel National Catholic Church, formerly of East Chicago, has relocated to Cedar Lake, and will host a Good Friday Fish and Shrimp Fry from 4 to 7:30 p.m. March 21 at After Four Supper Club, 13109 U.S. 41. Fish or shrimp dinners are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger, and combo dinners are $11 for adults and $6.50 for children. Homemade pierogi will also be available, potato or kraut for $7 per dozen and cheese for $8 per dozen.

SOUP BUFFET | Lake Station

Altar and Rosary Sodality of St. Francis Xavier Church is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat “Soup-er” Soup Buffet from 4 to 7 p.m. March 29 at St. Francis Xavier Church Hall, 2447 Putnam St. Select from more than 18 soups, and a sandwich, dessert and coffee are also included.  Carry-outs will be available. Tickets, $6 for adults and $3 for ages 9 and younger, can be purchased at the door

PAGE TURNERS | Lowell

"The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd will be the topic of a book discussion by the Tuesday Morning Page Turners at 10 a.m. March 25 at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave. Refreshments will be served. Pick up a copy at the circulation desk.

MURDER MYSTERY | Crown Point

White Hawk Country Club presents A Murder Mystery Dinner at 7 p.m. March 29 at the club, 1001 White Hawk Drive. Participants are invited to reunite with their "classmates" in this event based on the fictitious St. Mark's 30-year class reunion. The event includes a meal that beats old school cafeteria food, characters such as the former class president and the captain of the football team, and a cash bar. Tickets cost $29.50.

EASTER BRUNCH | Hobart

An Easter Brunch with seating every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23 will be held at Order of Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave. Cost is $15.95 for adults and $6.95 for ages 5 to 11.

TOLL-FREE NUMBER | Indiana

The Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter has announced a new toll-free telephone number, (800) 948-8806.  The direct phone number of the chapter will remain the same, (219) 762-6575. Volunteers from the chapter facilitate support group meetings in Lake and Porter counties as well as Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Richmond and Evansville.  Support group meetings are free and provide lupus education as well as peer support.  The chapter office, which serves the entire state, is located at 2642 Eleanor Street in Portage.

ADULT BASKETBALL | Hobart

Registration continues until April 5 for the Hobart Family YMCA's adult basketball leagues. The adult leagues will begin play April 14. Two leagues will serve separate age groups. There will be an 18 years and older competitive league that plays on Monday nights and a league for players 30 and older that plays on Tuesday nights. The cost is $450 per team, due at registration. The season will consist of eight regular season games and a tourney.

FOOD & FICTION | Shelby

Join the Food, Fun & Fiction Club at 5:30 p.m. March 25 at the Lowell Public Library's Shelby branch, 23321 Shelby Road. Check out the book "Scrambled Eggs at Midnight" by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler and read about Calliope and her mother, who lead a vagabond life, sleeping in tents as they travel from place to place. The same book will be discussed at 5 p.m. March 26 at the Schneider branch, 24004 Parrish Ave.

FLAG FOOTBALL | Hobart

Hobart Family YMCA will hold a youth flag football league for boys and girls ages 8 to 11 and 12 to 15. Registration runs through March 25. Practices will be one day a week for one hour. Games will be on Saturdays beginning April 26. Cost is $30 for members and $60 for nonmembers.

APPRAISAL LUNCHEON | Lowell

The Three Creeks Historical Association will hold its fourth Antique Appraisal Luncheon from noon to 4 p.m. April 5 at the First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Commercial Ave. The public is invited to bring one item to be appraised by Karl Gates, who offers an entertaining afternoon filled with information on collectibles and the guests' own special antiques. Tickets may be purchased for $25 from any association member. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The association meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave. The public is always welcome.

LIBRARY FRIENDS | Gary

The Friends of the Gary Public Library's mini-book sale set for March 22 has been canceled. A limited number of used books are available to buy in the book store area of the main library, 220 W. Fifth Ave. It's open during library hours.

ART LEAGUE | Hammond

LACARE Art League meets at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at the Hammond Public Library's Howard branch, 7047 Grand Ave. This month's demonstrator is artist Julie Skylar, gallery director of the Vogt Visual Arts Center in Tinley Park, Ill. Her realistic work as been in many exhibits and is represented  in the United States and in South Korea. She is represented by Steeple Gallery in St. John. LACARE welcomes all visitors and holds a raffle each month. Refreshments will be served.

HEALTH FAIR | Crown Point

Vendors are being accepted for the Annual Health & Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to noon March 29 at First Financial Bank, 11890 Broadway. GET A GRANT | Jasper, Newton counties

Jasper Foundation, Inc. and the Newton County Community Foundation wish to announce two rounds of grants for this year from their undesignated fund. Grant applications for the first round are available for Jasper County and Newton County nonprofit groups and are due by April 1. Areas of interest include education, arts and culture, social services, health and historic preservation. Applications may be obtained at www.jasperfdn.org. Interested groups should contact Linda Reiners at the foundation office regarding their potential grant.

PAGEANT CONTESTANTS | Northwest Indiana

The Puerto Rican Parade and Cultural Organization of Northwest Indiana seeks contestants for the 2008 Miss Puerto Rico and Northwest Indiana and the 2008 Juvenile/Tiny King and Queen. Applications are due March 22. Candidates must be of Puerto Rican descent, a resident of Northwest Indiana for a year, in school with a GPA of 2.0 or above, be of good moral character and be outgoing. Miss Puerto Rico contestants must be 16 to 21 years old and never married or living with someone, have no children and be able to speak Spanish. Tiny King and Queen contestants must be 7 to 12 years old and able to speak Spanish.

WOMEN'S CONNECTION | Schererville

Schererville Women's Connection offers a "Distinctively Yours" luncheon program from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 3 at Briar Ridge Country Club, 123 Briar Ridge Drive. Huckabees Home Accents of Crown Point will be featured, and Mary Haddad of Adrian, Mich. will give a talk titled "S is for Survival & Success." Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Lunch costs $15.
