BAKE SALE, PHOTOS | Munster

The Humane Society Calumet Area hosts its annual Easter bake sale and pet photos event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 and 22 at 421 45th St. Donations are needed for the bake sale and can be dropped off at the shelter starting march 18. Photos with the Easter Bunny cost $6; children and pets are welcome. Raffles will be included.

ROTARY HUNT | Schererville

Rotary Club of Schererville has its annual Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. March 22 at Rohrman Park, on Rohrman Road east of Cline Avenue. Registration is not required.

 EASTER FIESTA | Hammond

Our Family Center offers a fiesta from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 22 at 820 171st St. Participants will celebrate Easter with American and Hispanic traditions. Enjoy an Easter egg hunt for children in preschool to second grade, with a pinata for youths in third to sixth grade, as well as an egg-decorating contest and other activities. Easter bags will be provided at sign-in. The movie "Jesus" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. March 21. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. A service for families is set for 11 a.m. March 23 with Family Community Church.

ART LEAGUE | Hammond

LACARE Art League meets at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at the Hammond Public Library's Howard branch, 7047 Grand Ave. This month's demonstrator is artist Julie Skylar, gallery director of the Vogt Visual Arts Center in Tinley Park, Ill. Her realistic work as been in many exhibits and is represented  in the United States and in South Korea. She is represented by Steeple Gallery in St. John. LACARE welcomes all visitors and holds a raffle each month. Refreshments will be served.

FLASHLIGHT HUNT | Schererville

The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department hosts a flashlight egg hunt for youths 10 to 13 years old from 7 to 8 tonight at Town Hall, 10 E. Joliet St. Register at the clerk-treasurer's office at Town Hall. The cost is $9 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. Immediately after the hunt, participants will enjoy pizza, pop, cookies, games and a raffle.

EASTER BRUNCH | Munster

Polish Women's Alliance - District 3 celebrates Swieconka Easter brunch April 5 at Carmelite Banquet Hall, 1628 Ridge Road. Members, family and friends are invited to share in this Polish tradition. Doors open at noon and dinner will be served at 1 p.m. for $23. The reservation deadline is March 27. Proceeds from the alliance's raffle will benefit the District 3 scholarship fund. NIGHT OUT | Hammond

Harbor Lights will perform oldies but goodies at 6:30 p.m. March 28 at Dynasty Banquets, 4125 Calumet Ave. Snacks will be provided. A cash bar will be available, and admission is $20 per person. Dancing will be offered after the show.

RED HATS | Portage

The third annual Red Hat Luncheon will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 13 in the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road. Red Hatters from around the region are invited to attend this event that features entertainment, vendor booths, refreshments and door prizes. The cost is $25 per person. Bring someone who isn't a member of the Red Hat Society and enter to win a special prize. Luncheon tickets are available, through April 7, at the Portage parks department office at Woodland Park.

POLKA CELEBRATION | E.C.

The American Polka Association presents a polka celebration March 29 at American Legion Post 369, 1401 W. Chicago Ave. Musical entertainment for everyone's dancing and listening pleasure will be provided by Stas Bulanda's "Old School Review." Admission is $10 per person; children 16 and younger with a paid adult will be admitted free. Doors open at 6 p.m. with music from 7 to 11 p.m. Food and refreshments will be sold. Tickets are available by phone and at Bel-Aire Enterprises.

CLASSIC FILM | Highland

Classics on the Big Screen is offered at 2 and 6 p.m. March 24 at the Lake County Public Library's Highland branch, 2841 Jewett St. The 1954 musical, starring Frank Sinatra and Doris Day, as well as Gig Young, Dorothy Malone and Elizabeth Fraser, features a cynical hard luck musician who finds happiness and a new outlook when he falls in love with a small town girl. The film will be shown on the library's big screen. Refreshments will be served.

SOFTBALL LEAGUE | Schererville

Schererville Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for adult softball leagues. The entry fee is $500 per team. Spaces are available in the Tuesday men's upper division, Thursday men's upper division and Sunday co-ed lower division. Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-paid basis. Register at the clerk-treasurer's office in Town Hall, 10 E. Joliet St.

RAINBOW DAYS | Northwest Indiana

Participants are needed for Northwest Indiana Rainbow Days and its first gay pride parade, set for noon June 7. Bands, school bands, dancers, drag performers, impersonators, "walkers" with their supporters of the GLBT community, gay-friendly businesses, nonprofit groups, organizations and others are welcome. Pot luck | Lansing

The Columbian Ladies of Lansing will hold the annual pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at the Lansing Knights of Columbus Hall, 178th and Lorenz Avenue. Bring a dish to serve eight. Donations are also sought for the Carmelite Home for Girls in East Chicago for the group's trip April 20: Avenue products for sensitive skin, Vaseline skin lotions, shampoo, conditioner, soap for sensitive skin, toothpaste, tooth brushes, toys good for both girls and boys or monetary donations.

MEET MAYOR | Hammond

Meet Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. during Mayor's Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. March 27 at Kenwood Elementary School, 6416 Hohman Ave. The mayor and several department heads will answer questions in an open forum and will be available to discuss issues and concerns one-on-one. It's part of an ongoing effort for the mayor and his staff to be accessible to Hammond residents.

GREAT BOOKS | Munster

Great Books Discussion is at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Lake County Public Library's Munster branch, 8701 Calumet Ave. The Great Books Reading and Discussion Program includes the best that has been thought and written in the Western tradition. These classics are specially chosen by University of Chicago's Hutchins & Adler for their ability to stimulate meaningful discussion. Readers are invited to a discourse of Ecclesiastes (Bible), a selection from the fifth series of Great Books.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY | E.C.

St. Mark AME Zion Church celebrates its 92nd anniversary March 28 to 30 at 4200 Alder St. The theme is "A church family with many members whose foundation is faith." A banquet March 28 features fellowship at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for children 6 to 18 years old and $25 for adults. Reserve in advance. The celebration culminates during the 10:30 a.m. service March 30 with Bishop Roy Holmes as guest speaker.
